Explorer Scouts are aged between fourteen and eighteen years of age.
They are the fourth member of the Scouting family but unlike Beavers, Cubs and Scouts they are District based.
All Wakefield Explorer Units however do have close links to a local Scout Group.
Explorer Scouts are expected to be more involved in the programme planning than the junior sections and the
Adult Leaders are there to act as facilitators and advisors.

As well as Unit based activities there are usually District activities once per month to which all Wakefield Explorers are invited.
We also have a Young Leaders Unit who support all our Young People aged 14 to 17 who are volunteering with a younger section.
This Unit also helps you with your Young Leader training and for you working towards your Young Leader Belt.
You dont need to be a member before you start to volunteer with a younger section but you will need to join the
Young Leaders Unit when you start volunteer.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
Wakefield Scouts run the Duke of Edinbrgh Award at all 3 levels as part of our programme to acheive the 2 top Cheif Scout Awards and then the Queens Scout Award. All Explorers, Network Members and Leaders up to the age of 25 can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme with us. Please speak to you Explorer Leader for more details or contact our District Explorer Scout Commissioner.
